How to tell if you have pure CBD Oil

Unlike with prescription drugs, there is no overarching set of guidelines regarding the composition or purity of CBD oils. It can make it a bit challenging to determine which products are high-quality, pure oils.

Purity is not always as easy to measure as you might think. Many products on the market claim to contain pure CBD oil, while others provide labels that say things like “99% pure.” In an industry in which the idea of “purity” has no set definition, it can be hard to know what the label is telling you.

However, there are a few things you can take into consideration to get an idea of the product’s real purity:

Suspension vs Extract: When looking at CBD oils, take a look at their exact formulation. Is it an extract, or an extract placed in an oil suspension? These are not the same thing—an extract is mostly made of CBD extracted oil from hemp plants, while the latter is an extract mixed with oil. The former meets the more traditional definition of “purity.”

Filler oil vs oil purity: Pay attention to the oil used in your formulation. Some products advertise themselves as pure CBD oil, but they might be referring to the extract that is suspended in oil. The oil in which it is suspended and might not come from hemp, or even have any positive health benefits. This is “filler oil,” and is not considered a pure CBD oil.

Methods of extraction: The extraction process used in creating CBD oil is also an important consideration when determining a CBD oil’s purity. Take a close look at the website you are purchasing the oil from. If the company does not give a clear answer as to how the CBD oil was extracted, you should move on to another seller—most companies are more than happy to provide information about their processes if their CBD oil is genuinely pure.
